It's all about Change, Transitions and Pivots

"If you went to bed last night as an industrial company, you're going to wake up this morning as a software and analytics company" - Jeff Immelt

These were the words that kicked of today's Mind + Machines GE's Industrial Internet Conference.

The four keys to becoming a Digital-Industrial Company:

1. Smart Machines

The convergence of the digital and the physical in the industrial world is a profound transformation that is far from fully appreciated.  The Industrial Internet and Advanced Manufacturing are not only transforming individual machines and systems, but they are also changing the nature of economies of scale, transforming the economic landscape and blurring the lines between manufacturing and services.

2. Enabling Technology

In factories and supply chains, it is not uncommon to find 20 or more separate data collection systems, from Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) to Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to energy management and homegrown quality systems.

Integrating and fusing data into one interoperable platform allows engineering, factory and supply chain leaders to gain visibility over their functions and to understand the system-level trade-offs of their decisions.

3. Big Data

Massive amounts of operational data are coming online.  Gleaning intelligence from large volumes of industrial data and analyzing it for competitive advantage and turning industrial trends and patterns from noise into action is only the beginning for Industrial Big Data and Analytics.

4. Reliability

The more we can connect, monitor and manage the world's machines, the more insight and visibility we can give our customers to reduce unplanned downtime and increase predictability.  Imagine knowing when an asset will fail and planning a short maintenance outage before a catastrophic failure brings your systems down.
